What is the Properties for Porchlight scheme?

At Porchlight we run over 37 properties and last year around 350 people moved into our accommodation and away from the misery of life on the streets.

If you’ve been homeless, it’s really difficult to get accepted for a tenancy. And it’s even harder to pay full commercial rates with the high rent here in Kent.

We know moving someone into a home is the best way to end rough sleeping. Affordable housing is the only way we can make that happen but currently there isn't enough for everyone who needs it.

Through our Properties for Porchlight scheme, we will provide additional accommodation for more people. This means more people who are rough sleeping will have the chance to move away from the streets and live in safety with dignity and respect.

Local philanthropists have kindly gifted us five properties as part of this scheme already. Now we are developing relationships with new investors.

Ways you can support the Properties for Porchlight scheme

A lifetime gift of a house or property

You’ll be providing a home for people in desperate need so that we can focus our charity funds on the highly skilled support workers that help homeless people turn their lives around.

Loan of a house or flat rent free for 1-5 years

You’ll be providing affordable housing for people that need it. We’ll invest our own funds into your property to make sure that it meets multiple occupancy requirements and we’ll carry out any necessary maintenance works during the time of the lease.

Rent of a house or flat at a discretionary rate for 1-5 years

By offering us discretionary rates for the rental of a 1-4 unit house or flat, we’ll be able to provide an affordable home for people who are trapped in homelessness.
