Standing against immigration rules that target rough sleepers

Porchlight and others have pledged to continue helping people

We're taking a stand against new immigration rules that will punish non-UK nationals for being homeless.

The rules, issued by the Home Office, state that if somebody is sleeping rough, it is grounds for refusing or cancelling their leave to remain in the UK.

More than 60 organisations and councils, including Porchlight, have pledged to continue helping people, regardless of their immigration status. We are also collectively calling on the government to scrap the rules.

The fear of deportation will cut homeless people off from the support they desperately need and make them more vulnerable to exploitation and modern slavery.

People need support – not punishment – to escape homelessness. We exist as a charity to support the most vulnerable people in our society and we will continue to be there for everyone who needs us.
